Hey beautiful mama!!! I know it’ll be a few days before you see this but I cannot wait to hear all about this amazing experience. Love you so much my friend and Glorrior!!!!
Just have to throw in the thought I had that 12 years ago today one of your greatest miracles, or should I say three miracles, came into this world! Praying that again today numerous miracles are seen and that God’s hand is evident in the moments so far! Love ya girl!
Oops… 11 years that is. Totally forgot how old my own two were. Ha!
Thanks for your support Jamie. The morning of the boys’ birthday was a bit tough. Phil and I spent some time recalling the excitement of that day 11 years ago and then turned our focus to the amazing family we were building with. Kenna is doing awesome and its been so fun to watch her plunge into life here. She’s really great at interacting with the kids.
Hi Em, just wanted to say happy birthday with your 3 sons! Enjoy and be safe! 😙💖
EMILY!!! How’s it going? Missing you all like crazy. Although a little distance is nothing for the tribe. 🙂 How did building go? Wasn’t it amazing to build a house from start to finish in 3 days! Praying for you daily friend and that many will come to know him through your loving actions and deeds. Also that you were able to safely potty with Sharon during the night – its an important job…lol. I just want you to know you are in our hearts and minds and we are covering you all at the dinner table every night. Enjoy time at the base – a hot shower and lots of snuggles with the kiddo in the orphanage. Thinking of you constantly! Love Ellen
Hi Em! Wow, isn’t God good?! You weren’t even sure if you would be able to go and now here you are in a remote village in Guatemala being the hands and feet of Jesus! Thanks for being an extra Momma to my girl (s). I know they are well taken care of by all you ladies! So what do you think? Isn’t physically, emotionally and spiritually draining and yet the most amazing closeness to God! I hope God is already moving in mighty ways and I can’t wait to hear all about it. Share lots!
Sharla, it’s been a joy to share this trip with your daughter. She’s truly a gem. Sharon and I stepped fully into our roles as Bonus Moms!
I have been thinking about you this week, and it puts a smile on my face. Thank you for taking this step forward to be Gods hands and feet this week! I can’t wait to hug you and hear about this adventure-I am sure it is amazing! Wow-you have 3 11yr old boys!!! You are amazing, keep it up! I pray you had some time on this trip to spend some quiet time with your hubby too. Love you girl!
Shields up against the heat!
Shields were definitely needed on so many occasions! I came across a new “shield” verse for our tribe on Day 2 and can’t wait to share it you all at our next prayer time.
My mind wonders every day how /what you are doing. So grateful that you and Phil are able to have and share this opportunity.
The kids have been great. Every time I say “where do I find this or where do I put this? “ at least two little voices chime in to answer my question.
Birthday Day was a big day. Between pizza lunch, Teddy’s swim meet, Hibachi grill for supper, and then Michaels for Paxton to buy something with his gift card it was full and fun.
We got home about 5 minutes before Tierney’s bedtime and nobody put up a fuss about going to bed. They have gone to bed very well every night. Tierney gets in bed and says “I really miss my mommy and daddy” every night…but no tears , just a statement , and then she’s off to sleep.
I’m sitting at the hospital at the moment. Dirk is tolerating this chemo MUCH better than the 7 + 3 regime….thankfully.
The numbers for his immune system are dropping as expected and he is receiving blood today because his hemoglobin is also low. He received chemo in his spinal fluid again and has had a number of pretransplant tests done. Even will all this going on he is much stronger than he was last week and has been able to eat small meals quite consistently.
The BMT coordinator is supposed to be in today with an update. Will let you know if we hear anything.
Much love and many prayers,
Just returned to the base tonight. Only a few minutes to type. Tears of joy in reading how things are going for Dirk. This is the news I so wanted to read! It has been an amazing few days so far and we are eager to tell you about our time. Thanks for the details on the kiddos. We miss them like crazy and being away on Tuesday was challenging but it was an incredible day here.
Good morning Leighton, Ryland, Paxton, & Tierney, I have a few more minutes to type this morning so I wanted to send a bit more info for you. Dad and I are excited to tell you all about the family we built a house with. There is a Dad (Ludin), Mom (Grisley), 13 year-old son (Jeffrey), 9 year-old son (Juan Carlos), and a 6 year-old daughter (Pati). Isn’t that amazing how God matched Dad and I up with a family that has kiddos similar to us? They were a wonderful family and we look forward to telling you about them. On the way back to the base we had plenty of adventures. One of the vans broke down and Dad ended up steering it through the hills of Guatemala while the van I was in towed it. It was wild as there were no power brakes or steering. He was awesome! The trip that should have taken about three hours took closer to 5.5. There is also a professional photographer here taking footage for PBM. He’s from Lexington, KY! Ryland, he used an awesome drone to take some incredible shots of the village. We hope to be able to show you those too. We heading off to a different village today to host a medical clinic. There is a team of dentists with our group so they will be providing medical care as well. We hope that you have a wonderful day. We love you!
We are having trouble posting this so I am trying as Sharon.
thank you very much we can’t wait to hear your story. It sounds interesting.
I just got a sneak peek of you dedicating one of the houses and my heart was filled with so much joy! Love and miss my girls so much! Give Sharon a huge hug for me and have her give you one back for me too!!!! Glorrior, shield up!
Sitting with Dirk although about to leave for Aidan’s conference meet.
Dirk got another unit of packed rbc today and is presently receiving his next to the last dose of this round of chemo. He will receive the last dose during the night and things are still on track for his discharge tomorrow. Monday he will have blood drawn as well as a growth hormone injection to stimulate his immune system which will continue to tank over the next 10 days. But over all lots of thanksgiving here over how well he tolerated this round.
Just wanted to confirm that you received the email that I sent via Maureen
Lots of love and many prayers,
Got the message late last night. Celebrating like crazy!
Celebrating in the depths of your heart and not with your voice, right?
INSTRUCTED mums the word
Internal celebration and a teary hug with Phil–that’s it.
Hello dear friend,
I’ve been thinking of you guys all week! There was a SHORT 3 second video posted on fb yesterday of you praying over one of the houses and just wished it would’ve kept going! I kept replaying it over and over trying to get a feel of being there with you all. I’m praying for you and the team every day and can’t wait to hear all about your time with those beautiful Guatemalans. Praying that you are not growing weary and are staying healthy! ❤️ Ya!
We are looking forward to sharing more details at our next prayer meeting. So many incredible stories of God moving in the lives of people in the villages and in our team.
Hey Em! That is such awesome news about Dirk, it is all such a miracle that I am so blessed to have been a prayer warrior for! Thanks for sharing about your experience at the village and the family you built for. I love to hear about the details. I am continuing to pray for all of you every day!
Good morning my Glorrior!!! It sounds like the week has been absolutely amazing and that you guys have many God moments to share when you get back. Just know your tribe has been covering you all in prayer all week and that we do feel a sense of void without two of our glorriors. Praying for your last day in Guatemala, that you are able to enjoy some downtime and time away from the base. Also, we will be lifting you all up as you have your final devo tonight. God tends to move mightly this very last night together!!!
Love you my friend and see you TOMORROW!!!!!
Good morning to you all,
We had another amazing day yesterday with a medical/dental clinic. The village was beautifully situated and at high enough elevation that we were enveloped by clouds. It was a glorious sight to see the clouds roll in from the valley. Everyone is currently getting ready for our day trip to Antigua. Leighton, Ryland, Paxton, & Tierney: Dad and I will be sure to take many pictures of the market so we can tell you all about it. I handed out the string bracelets that we made to some girls. Dad took a picture so you can see one of the girls. Tierney, we hope you had a wonderful time last night at the dance with Opa. We can’t wait to hear all about it. We have seen God work in many amazing ways this week and look forward to sharing these stories.
Thank you we can’t wait to see you tomorrow.
Hi mom it’s Paxt0n, my birthday was awesome. Last night when Tierney went when to the daddy daughter dance we went Culver’s. I debated about getting a shake, but instead I got a concrete mixer. We’re going to Church soon I got to go, love, Paxton.
Hi Pax! Thanks for writing to me. Culver’s sounds delicious! It will be refreshing to have something cold to drink when I get home. I hope church went well too. We are excited to see you tomorrow night!
Hi mom. How are you doing. Is everything going okay.I hope so. I’m doing great.I LOVE you and dad’s gifts. Tell dad hello for me.💕 Bye!

Hey Mom this is Ryland! We have been having so much fun with our grandparents. Yesterday we went to Culver’s ice cream and I got myself a and I got myself a concrete mixer. I got a concrete mixer with caramel sauce and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. It was delicious! Also my Nerf gun is out of batteries. Right now I’m trying to build myself a rubber band gun out of popsicle sticks. It will have five shots. Also I have a little problem my Nerf gun is out of batteries. And on Friday my Tinker crate came. It is awesome it’s his arcade catapult game. I can’t wait to tell you all the fun things we did with oma and opa and grandma and papa. Bye Mom I love you!☺😁☺☻
Hi Ryland, That sounds like a delicious combo in your concrete mixer. The rubber band gun sounds cool as does your new Tinker Crate project. We’ll have to find some rechargeable batteries for your nerf gun. We are looking forward to hearing all about your fun week. Love you bud.
See you soon Mom I love you

Hey Em! You’re probably getting ready for a fun day of shopping! continuing my prayers for all of you that you feel God’s presence mightily and for safe, uneventful travels home!! I heard about your brother and how well he tolerated his chemo this time…praise God! That was probably such relief to you being so far away. Enjoy your last couple days in Guatemala!
Hi there! I’m sure you are enjoying your day off right now after this emotionally, spiritually and physically draining week, but In an amazing way! I got to side hug your boys today in Bldg 25, it was great to see them. I didn’t expect them to be at our church. They told me about their birthday and gifts! It sounds like grandparents definitely gave them a special and loving week and birthday! I can’t wait to hear all your stories when you get home. Praying you through the final devo night and travels tomorrow.
Traveling mercies Honey….
